TIME TIME TIMETwo down. One to Go.
Tomorrow my son starts kindergarten. I sincerely will miss him. But I look forward to it, too...because this means more writing time.
I estimated today, that if I write 15 pages a day (not an impossible goal with my new free time) I could finish my current WIP in 14 days. Taking into account I don't write on the weekends, this would be in actuality more like three weeks than two...but really. In three weeks I could be done?
Seems crazy. On the other hand, I've been working so long on this book already I feel like I should already be done with it. I started it July 21. It's now 155 pages long. Which means that in less than five weeks I wrote 155 pages. That's about 31 pages a week --- not bad for the summer, when there were days I wrote NOTHING.
I used to think writing 20 pages a week was good. Then I had another kid and 20 pages a month was good. Then my kids got older and 5-8 pages a day was pretty good, two or three times a week, with little else in between.
Now I'm looking at a whole new world. And there is no reason to think that Monday through Friday I will not write from about 9 am to noon. Three hours. Four if I don't go to the coffee shop -- but if I don't go to the coffee shop, I won't write for three hours. :) I'll do laundry or putz around on the internet. So. Three hours. Five days a week.
I'll be rocking and rolling.
Until of course, the days come for field trips. And volunteering. And will I be a worse mother if I say no than the mother who goes "to work" at "a job?" Just because I work on my own time, does that mean I have to say yes to everything?
Of course not.
But I'll say yes to some things, because that's the beauty of being a mom who stays home.
And then in October...I'll have three hours three mornings a week and FIVE hours two days a week! That's...that's...that's very nearly a part time job!!!! Almost 20 hours a week!
