How do you write? So I'm working away on this book I'm calling Dirty. I'm at 61% estimated completion, which is great. And it's going well, I'm enjoying it, it's great fun.
I used to write linear novels...start at the beginning, write to the end, go back and finish up with the editing, adding and/or subtracting parts.
Then when I was writing Beneath the Veil, I wrote a big section that I realized had to come much, much later in the book. So I went back and wrote the earlier stuff. And I went back and forth a little bit.
So with this book, I started at the beginning. Then I was in a mood and I had to write the breakup scene to channel that angsty energy. I knew that came later, so, no big deal. So that's done...but now I'm getting some new ideas for things (a whole new character, HELLO) that will need to be woven into the beginning...not a real problem, but now I'm writing all sorts of scenes out of order!
I don't like to edit as I go, I prefer to just write and write and sew it all together when it's done. But now I have all these scenes and snips and notes to myself in the manuscript, it's wacky. But the book is still moving smoothly, I'm still writing it and maybe I'm making my editing job harder...or maybe not. Because maybe this time when it's done I'll have already written most of those little snips and scenes that tie all the pieces together, and I'll just have to knit them together when I edit...
How do YOU write?
