15 Things

I know there are a lot of other writers out there. I invite you to tell me 15 things about your writing...or 15 things about YOU, no matter what they are.

1. I started my first book at roughly nine. It was called The Barn Cat Chronicles. I didn't finish it.

2. I started and *finished* my first book at roughly 22. It was called Strands of Sunlight.

3. Writing emotion is the most difficult part of writing for me.

4. Worldbuilding and characterization are my two favorite parts of writing. I usually start with a certain character I want to write, everything else evolves from that.

5. If I don't get turned on by reading a sex scene I wrote, I delete it and start over.

6. I'm a slow writer. I average 3k a day. The most I've ever written in one day is 5k.

7. I wrote my first book during my last semester in college. I was so obsessed with the book that I completely missed 3 exams in my speech class. I was on the fast track to an "F" for a course required for my graduation, but I convinced my prof to grade me on solely on the strength of my speeches. He gave me an "A" in the end. A writer friend of his had recently died and he was feeling indulgent.

8. I always let my manuscripts sit untouched for at least a week before I go back to edit them, in order to get some distance for a less cluttered perspective.

9. I started out wanting to write fantasy. It was Teresa Medeiros' books that made me try romance.

10. I had an agent once and it was a very bad experience. It taught me to be selective and careful.

11. I have never written anything that wasn't paranormal or fantasy.

12. I put my cats in my books. My cat Wiggle appears in Ordinary Charm and Kara is in several of the Embraced books.

13. I never, ever thought I'd one day end up writing erotic romance for a living.

14. I used to be obsessed with my Amazon.com rankings, but now nearly never check them.

15. I'm getting ready to branch out in a different genre.
