Authors I will buy in hardbackThere are few authors I'll shell out the $ for in hardback. I do it because I simply can't wait for the paperback.
Guy Gavriel Kay
George R.R. Martin
Robin McKinley
Anne Bishop (Sebastian is her latest and is out today! Whee!! Bookstore, here I come.)
There are others. This is just a "for example" list. There are some authors whose books aren't released in hardback, but if they were I'd been handing over the plastic at the bookstore without a second thought.
When I try to articulate why I love these authors enough to spend the extra money on them in hardback, it's difficult. It's a combination of lyrical prose, solid plots that engage my imagination, and wonderfully drawn, complex characters. I know that when I read their books, I'll be swept away completely. I'll close the book with a mixture of satisifaction and regret. *sigh* I'll want to immediately reread the book.
Who are some of the authors you'll buy in hardback? I'd ask why you'd spend the extra $, but I bet your answer would be a lot like mine. Readers are united in this, I think. :)
